Texas A&M University Health Science Center (Texas A&M Health) has been selected by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) – Immunization to administer the Texas Vaccine Outreach and Education Grant program. Through this new program $10 million in federal funds will be awarded to Texas community-based organizations.

A Hemphill County grand jury returned three criminal indictments on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Alex Moreno and Paula Forrest presented a summer concert last Sunday, July 25, at the Texas Crown Performance Hall, to an appreciative audience. The two musicians each performed individually on the piano, and together, with Moreno on vibraphone or xylophone, and Forrest accompanying him on piano.

The final tally for this year’s 6th Annual GO! Weekend was impressive: Two hundred and twenty-five volunteers representing five local churches completed 23 projects, including three houses painted; one home exterior remodeled; two new retaining walls and a staircase built; seven yards transformed; 40 meals delivered, and at least that many stowed away in the freezer for future needs; several boxes of fresh potatoes and other garden produce delivered…and all of that finished by noon on Saturday.

The Canadian Record earned a stack of plaques and general excellence honors in the Panhandle Press Association’s 2020 Better Newspaper Contest awards ceremony, held last weekend in Amarillo. The Record staff collected 11 first-place and two secondplace plaques for its work during what Laurie Ezzell Brown described as one of the most difficult years in her nearly three decades as editor and publisher.
