Voters in May 2 election will settle races for City Council, Water District and School boards
All Election Day polling in Hemphill County will be conducted in Canadian High School foyer
Voters in this Saturday's local elections will determine the fate of candidates in three contested races. At stake are three seats on the Canadian City Council, three seats on the Hemphill County Underground Water District Board of Directors, and two seats on the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees.
Election Day polling places will be open from 7 am-7 pm this Saturday, May 2. Early voting in all three races ended on Tuesday, April 28.
In Hemphill County, voters in all three races will cast ballots in the Canadian High School foyer, located at 621 S. 5th Street. All voters in Lipscomb County Precincts 106 and 404 will cast their ballots for the CISD Board of Trustees in the Higgins Multipurpose Building (15 E. 5th Street, Higgins).
On the City Council, four candidates—Gary Prater, Wendie Cook and Ashlee Talley, and newcomer Jennifer Ford—are vying for three open seats, for full two-year terms.
On the Hemphill County Underground Water District Board of Directors, four candidates are seeking election to three open seats, for full three-year terms. They are incumbents Elizabeth Light, Marty Carr and Tom Isaacs, and first-time candidate Allen Hadaway.
On the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees, three candidates—incumbents Rudy Godino and Heath Mitchell, and challenger Bradley Flynn—are vying for two open seats, for full three-year terms.
The Hemphill County Hospital Board election has been cancelled. Board member Sharon Carr is signed up for another term of office, and will be joined on the board by Travis Macias, who has been appointed to fill the seat long-held by Karen Gullett. Neither candidacy was contested.
