Canadian ISD announces lone finalist for Superintendent

The Canadian Independent School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Dr. Julia McMains is the lone finalist for the position of Canadian ISD Superintendent. After a competitive search that included 19 highly qualified applicants, the Board selected Dr. McMains due to her extensive experience in curriculum, dedication to staff and students, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

Canadian ISD Superintendent Lynn Pulliam submits resignation

Dr. Lynn Pulliam notified Canadian ISD board and staff members Monday of his resignation as superintendent, effective July 31.

Pulliam—a Vega High School graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University and a Master of Education from West Texas A&M University—first joined the CISD staff in 2002, when he was hired to take the helm from veteran Canadian Elementary School Principal Karen Minyen, who retired after a 28-year reign on that campus.

From Canadian ISD: Understanding the $20 Million Bond Issue

The Canadian ISD Board of Trustees has called for a $20 million Bond Issue Election to be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2024. Early voting will run from April 22 to April 30 at the CISD Business Office.

The objective of the proposed bond propositions is to fund existing expenses in such a way that less local tax revenue is sent to the State in the form of recapture, and more of the local revenue is used to serve Canadian ISD students. The 2024 Bond Proposal comprises two key propositions:

    UPDATED: Friday filing sets up contested school, hospital board races in May 4 elections

    Candidate filing ended this week for those seeking a place on the ballot in the local May 4 elections. In a flurry of last-minute action before Friday’s deadline, several candidates signed up, filling what were potentially vacant seats and setting the stage for contested school and hospital board races.

    Altogether, nine elected positions were up for grabs in the spring election, including three city council seats, two seats on the hospital board, two on the school board, and two on the water board.

    School board hears reports on cybersecurity, track and gym repairs in December meeting

    In their December 7 meeting, the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees received reports on cybersecurity issues with the District’s network that were addressed; were informed of off-campus problems with students accessing inappropriate content on their school devices, and how those problems were being addressed; and received an update on repairs to the CHS Auxiliary Gymnasium and to the track.

    CISD Board of Trustees names Wildcat football field ‘Chris Koetting Field’

    School board trustees voted Tuesday evening to name the field at Wildcat Stadium in honor of Canadian’s head football coach and athletic director Chris Koetting.

    Koetting announced his retirement at the end of the 2022-23 school year, citing health issues that have affected his cognitive abilities, and his desire to spend more time with his family.
