Inspectors for the Texas Railroad Commission are investigating a 5.4 magnitude earthquake that was recorded west of Pecos near the border of Reeves and Culberson counties on Wednesday, the agency said.
The earthquake, confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey, was the largest recorded in the state since 1995 and the third-largest in Texas history, according to the USGS National Earthquake Information Center.
Hemphill County AgriLife Extension will host beef quality assurance (BQA) certification training for area beef cattle producers at 10 am on Thursday, Dec. 8. Following a rigorous review of the best available scientific and commercial information regarding the past, present, and future threats, as well as ongoing conservation efforts, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is listing two distinct population segments (DPS) of the lesser prairie-chicken under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The southern DPS of the lesser prairie-chicken is being listed as endangered. The northern DPS of the lesser prairie-chicken is being listed as threatened.
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced last week that he would send cities, counties, transit systems, and special-purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for November, 7.1 percent more than in November 2021.
Canadian’s sales remain sluggish. The $61,257 rebate check received this month was 5.31 percent lower than in November of 2021. Year-to-date payments are running slightly ahead, gaining 5.34 percent over the payments received this time last year.
