“All A” Honor Roll

Canadian High School’s one-act play performance of August: Osage County will be presented onstage at the Texas Crown Performance Hall, Thursday evening, March 5, at 7 pm. This is the play’s only public performance before the OAP contest, which will be held at Bushland ISD on March 11.

5th Grade: Samantha Benson, Ava Williams, Abram Flynn, Brandon Soto; 4th Grade: Brooks Wall, Maddy Longoria, Ashley Frayre, Ella Spence; 3rd Grade: Lily Westbrook, Sadie Boyd, Corben Whittle, Bryan Mondragon.

The flu has shut us down. So many people in my little West Texas town have the flu that the schools have been closed for seven days with no sign of re-opening this week. Not all students are staying home. This is Texas, which means flu or no flu, sports will go on. Students on the basketball and baseball teams, and track-and-field athletes still play on schedule. Several other towns in the area are experiencing the same situation.

Eleven students from Baker Elementary and Canadian Middle School competed in the annual Hemphill County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Texas Crown Performance Hall.

Top O’ Texas CattleWomen are inviting high school seniors in several area counties to apply for one of four $750 scholarships which will be offered this year to 2020 graduates.

Canadian High School band students competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest at West Texas A&M University two weeks ago. Five soloists and three ensembles earned first-division ratings for their performances, and advanced to the state-level competition, which will be held in Austin on Memorial Day weekend.

The CMS Galactic Builders earned the Judges Award at the FIRST Tech Challenge Panhandle North League Tournament held on Feb. 1, 2020, at Frank Philips College. This team competed against 31 district teams, of which only three were middle school teams. This year’s Judges Award was presented to the Galactic Builders based on their presentation and interview with the judges where they demonstrated growth as a rookie team in a league dominated by high school ones.
