Lady Cats place second, Wildcats fourth at Lubbock Cross-Country Invitational

Canadian’s Lady Cats cross-country team won second-place overall on Saturday at the prestigious Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park. They were outpaced only by Holliday’s No. 1 Lady Eagles.

Konnar McClendon crossed the finish line in 2nd place overall, followed by Lady Cats Elizabeth Guerrero, 10th, and Arionna Black, 13th, among the top-15 finishers. Maile Quisenberry, Payton Lee, Brooklyn Beedy and Landry Appel rounded out the team.

CMS 8th-Grade Wildcats start '23 football season on 3-0 roll

In their season debut here on Koetting Field, Canadian's 8th-grade Wildcats executed a daunting 52-18 win over the Rangers on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The Wildcat offense was led by Weston Mitchell and Chris Flores, who had 5 and 3 touchdowns, respectively. Mitchell completed 6 of 8 passes for 179 yards and 3 TDs, and carried for 87 more yards and 2 more TDs. Flores racked up 77 yards rushing and 75 yards receiving, finding the endzone three times.

Both the Wildcat Varsity and Junior High teams won the meet. Out of 20 runners competing, 18 ran their personal best, reported Coach Jay McCook, who concluded, “Outstanding day for the Wildcats.”

Wildcat Varsity XC team takes second at Borger High’s Jeep Webb XC Classic

The Wildcat Varsity cross-country team competed in Borger High School’s “Jeep Webb” cross-country meet Saturday, and finished second as a team overall in a field of 73 runners. The meet was held at the Borger Bulldog Stadium.

Canadian’s C.J. Jimenez led the charge, finishing the 3-mile run 5th in 17:41. Joseph Dominguez was 12th in 18:33; Juan Vargas 14th in 18:42; and Anderson Perkins 16th in 18:50. Coleman Perkins was 27th in 19:44, Lino Lugo 28th in19:51, Logan Urschel 39th in 20:13, Jose Vargas 58th in 22:02, and Easton Galla 61st in 22:41.

Three CHS students earn College Board National Recognition

Body

Students at Canadian High School earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance. The academic honors for rural area, Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino students are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent.

Plans for Homecoming Week Spirit Parade take shape at CHS

The Canadian Wildcat Booster Club and CHS Spirit Club are sponsoring a Spirit Parade for Homecoming on Wednesday, September 6, at 6:30 pm. The route will begin at the Hemphill County Courthouse, continue up 6th Street, and end at the newly christened Chris Koetting Field.

CISD Board of Trustees names Wildcat football field ‘Chris Koetting Field’

School board trustees voted Tuesday evening to name the field at Wildcat Stadium in honor of Canadian’s head football coach and athletic director Chris Koetting.

Koetting announced his retirement at the end of the 2022-23 school year, citing health issues that have affected his cognitive abilities, and his desire to spend more time with his family.
