Rotary: Briants visit Plymouth, Massachusetts

Body
Beth Briant gave a program to fill the cups of history and genealogy buffs. She and George recently visited Plymouth, Massachusetts, with Jim and Lauren Haley after watching the Haley’s son, James, perform in a Blue Angels show in Maine. One of Lauren’s sisters, Lisa, attended the show then invited the Briants and Haleys to stay in her and her husband, David’s, historic home in Plymouth for a taste of some classic American history.

River Valley Pioneer Museum | Canadian, Texas

Body
Next week, the Canadian Arts Alliance is presenting their annual dinner theatre performance in the museum’s gallery room. If you haven’t seen the flyer yet, check out it out. I look fabulous in it! This is the second time the CAA has held their dinner theatre in the museum, and it’s the second time I have participated as a cast member. Both of my characters have been “hot messes,” so I’m not sure if I’m being typecast or if acting like a hot mess comes naturally to me. Either way, I have had lots of fun.

Celebrating Constitution Week

Body
In 1955, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress with a resolution, which was signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on Aug. 2, 1956. Since that time, Constitution Week (Sept. 17-23) has been observed as a time to celebrate the foundation of the American form of government. On Sept. 18, members of Canadian’s Comancheria Chapter, NSDAR, attended the Constitution Week Luncheon in Amarillo, hosted by the Esther McCrory Chapter, NSDAR. WTAMU history professor Dr. Timothy Bowman spoke on the “200th Anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail.” Pictured above are Comancheria Chapter members Jeri Pundt, Pam Hill, Chuck Hartline, Phoebe Hartline, Marilee Wright, Deborah Dickinson, and Shawna Ditmore. What's Cookin' in Canadian: Easy Tamale Casserole

Body
I love a good tamale and this recipe on Allrecipes.com website sounded easy and delicious. They used a cast-iron skillet that went from stovetop to oven, but mixture could easily be cooked on stove and transferred to baking dish if you do not have large ovenproof skillet. Enjoy!

The Postscript: A Good Story

Body
To me, “the farm” has always meant the farm where my mother grew up, one of 11 children. Every book I ever read that was set on a farm, and many other books as well, all took place in my imagination at my mother’s family farm and the surrounding woods.

Rotarians arouse the ghosts of WCTU past

Body
The irony was not lost on us that this week’s program would make the women of the WCTU roll over in their graves if they knew we invited a whiskey distiller into their beloved building where we hold our meetings. But Jon Dumbauld and his siblings, partners in SoNo 1420, have a habit of making waves wherever they land.
