Welcome rains and plentiful sunshine combined this week to transform the countryside around Canadian, yielding a wondrous roadside display of wildflowers, best viewed along US 60 towards Glazier.
This Sand Lily (Mentzelia decapetala) was just one of many that posed for us in a field of sunflowers Monday evening about the time the sun started melting in the west.

Board member Sarah Rader grew up in Lipscomb County, 18 miles from Canadian, on a family ranch. However, she has always called Canadian her ‘town.’ Rader moved to Canadian in 2017, and notes that her family has lived in the area for over 100 years! She is a CPA for Hudgins Crosier Sumpter, P.C., who took over the firm from longtime CPA, Gary Minyen when he retired in July 2013. Her company provides tax return and bookkeeping services.
This exhibition features figurative and abstract acrylic paintings by New Mexico artist George Mendoza. Colors of the Wind is George Mendoza’s most comprehensive exhibition to date. These works embody the creative force of this visionary artist, whose work explores the spiritual, mystical, playful, and sometimes darker nuances of the human spirit.
“I don’t remember you at all!” the portly man informed my husband, Peter.
Peter smiled, introduced himself, and reminded the gentleman where they might have met half a century ago.
The man shook his head. “Nope!”
This was the first high school class reunion I had ever attended, and it was filled with moments like that.
The Pampa Community Concert Association has announced the lineup for live on-stage performances during the 2022-2023 season, which begins next Monday evening, Sept. 19.
Kicking off the concert season on Monday at 7 pm will be Vinyl Radio, a group of four musicians who combine their considerable talents into an experience that captures the essence of the 70s era, when guitars and grooves, mellow mayhem, and melodies ruled the airwaves.
