INGREDIENTS The Meatballs 1/2 pound ground pork 1/2 pound ground beef 1/4 cup rolled oats 1/4 cup milk 1 large egg, lightly beaten 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 small onion, diced The Sauce 2/3 cup pure maple syrup 1/4 cup prepared yellow mustard 2 tablespoons ketchup 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco) 1/4 teaspoon salt PREPARATION Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Combine ground pork, ground beef, oats, milk, egg, salt, garlic powder, and pepper in a large bowl and mix well.

Cowboy Church outdoor nativity returns for one night Dec. 18

The Palo Duro Cowboy Church, located just west of Canyon, will again present its unique live Cowboy Nativity event, free to the public, on Sunday, Dec. 18, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Unlike in previous years, this year’s display will be open for one night only. The event has been held for a number of years and draws spectators from throughout the Panhandle.

INGREDIENTS Nonstick cooking spray 12 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped 1-1/2 cups unsalted butter 6 large eggs 3 cups sugar 2 tablespoons vanilla 1-1/2 cup flour, sifted 2/3 cups raspberry jam PREPARATION Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with aluminum foil so that it hangs over the two narrow ends of the dish. Coat the foil and dish lightly with nonstick spray.

BES oral readers are Rotary guests

Kelsy Haley’s fourth- and fifth-grade UIL oral readers presented the Rotary’s program last week. Rotarians had the pleasure of listening to each one of these talented students perform their oral-reading stories. They were all very animated and quite funny with their performance. Among the students presenting were fifth-graders Lucas LeFever, Blaze Mills, and Emma Peterson; and fourth-graders Paris Lee, Chloe Ray, Elodie Dial, and Eliza Cooper. The students competed in Bushland on Friday, Dec. 2. Heather Saenz is the coach for oral reading. Principal Jeff Quisenberry also accompanied the students to Rotary.
