THERE ARE THOSE who believe that the Coronavirus shutdown was completely unnecessary. I agree. The virus should have been allowed to run its course and eliminate all of the old and infirm people in our society … except for you and me, of course.

PRESIDENT TRUMP is trying to convince us with his version of the Vietnamera’s daily “Five O’ Clock Follies” that he has considered the coronavirus a serious threat from the start. However, the record actually reflects that, despite being given numerous warnings of the coronavirus’ grave effect on our country, he consistently denied it would be.

OUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL board of directors, in a renewed and restructured partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, has taken bold and decisive steps to recommit its energy and resources to community development. It is the job that organization was long ago tasked with, and for some time, seemed to have forgotten.

In gratitude and loving remembrance

Building the beautiful county duck ponds (above) and recreation complex were among the many community projects that Hemphill County invested in while Lynard Schafer was a member of the commissioners court.

In its quiet beauty early Tuesday morning, following an overnight snowfall, this seemed an appropriate place to seek solace after learning that Lynard had died the day before. His sudden absence left a hole in our hearts, but also a far more a lasting sense of appreciation for his dedication to this county, which is forever enriched by his thoughtful leadership.
