ONCE MORE WE ARE EXPRESSING our thoughts and prayers for murdered children on social media, demanding Congress act to prevent such heinous acts. Despite most of us demanding change, this atrocity will too soon disappear from media and our consciousness with nothing substantive being accomplished, because the will of the majority will have been thwarted by the minority. (And the few who remember past such events will add “again.”)

The Canadian Community Center’s 2022 baseball season wrapped up successfully last week. Altogether, 119 youth baseball players and 19 coaches and assistant coaches participated in five T-ball teams, four coach-pitch teams, and two travel teams.

Gunman walked into school building unopposed The gunman who killed 21 people inside a Uvalde elementary school walked into the unlocked building unopposed, the Department of Public Safety said in a revised statement, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman and other media sources. After the gunman crashed his grandmother’s truck in a ditch, he walked into the building while firing a semiautomatic weapon purchased just days after his 18th birthday.

First sweepstakes still memorable

WHEN WE MADE that first sweepstakes award, we painted the school bus so everyone along the way home would see our honors. We wore white shoes, so there was plenty of white shoe polish to finish the art. Mr. Waits is holding the trophy.
