Matching donations sought for scholarship fund established to honor WT’s Kimberly Dudley

CANYON—Donors may contribute to a scholarship fund established in honor of a West Texas A&M University athlete and coach turned administrator.

An anonymous donor has challenged donors to endow the Coach Kimberly Dudley Cross-Country Scholarship, offering to match contributions one-for-one up to $25,000. If the match is met in full, the endowment will provide $2,000 annually in perpetuity to assist members of the Lady Buff Cross-Country team.

Out of Ashes Barrel Race series raises money for wildfire victims

Brandy Wright of CBR (Canadian Barrel Racers) has started a barrel racing series, called the Out of the Ashes 4D Barrel Race Buckle Series.The first jackpot was a benefit for the Davina Family who lost everything in the fires, and was held March 29. It raised a little over $2,000 for the family. The next event will be held on Thursday, April 4, at the Canadian Rodeo Arena.

Preston Neumeier, Luke Flowers, compete at Texas Relays

These two CHS seniors competed this past weekend In the Texas Relays, which were held in Austin. Luke Flowers (photo at left) ran the 110 hurdles against a talented and very fast field of nationally-ranked competitors. Preston Neumeier (at right) competed in the long jump and triple jump against athletes from all classifications and states, and claimed a silver medal in the long jump. His winning of 23’ 4.75” jump set a new school record, out-performing his own previous record-setting long jump.

CHS Power-Lifter Karson Thompson competes in State Finals this Saturday

Canadian High School Senior Karson Thompson placed third in the Regional power-lifting competition two weeks ago, and will compete in the 2024 Texas High School Powerlifting Association Finals this Saturday, March, 22 in Abilene. The event will be held at the Taylor County Expo Center, located at 1700 Hwy 36. Karson is the son of Michelle and Dee Thompson of Canadian.

Lady Cats softball defeats Booker in 19-0 shutout Thursday

Canadian’s Lady Cat softball team engineered a 19-0 shutout against Booker here at home on Thursday. The Lady Cats scored early and often in the game, putting up 3 points in the first inning, doubling that score in the second, running the bases for 8 more points in the third and 5 more in the fourth.

In five innings of play, the Lady Kiowas were scoreless. Junior Lady Cat pitcher Jessa Bell allowed only one hit and struck-out 11 batters.

Cavalier named 3A Offensive Player of the Year by Texas Sports Writers Association

BRYAN – Canadian quarterback Camren Cavalier and Brock linebacker Cooper Massey were named the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A players of the year.

Cavalier passed for 3,951 yards with 59 touchdowns only three interceptions to grab offensive player of the year. He added 1,494 yards rushing with 24 more touchdowns for the 14-1 Wildcats.

UIL releases biennial reclassification, realignment info

AUSTIN— The biennial University Interscholastic League reclassification and realignment for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years was released this morning, Thursday, Feb. 1, at 9 am. The new alignments, established by enrollment figures submitted to the UIL by its member schools in October, will serve as the football districts for the next two school years.
