The Canadian Lady Cat cross-country team had an extemely successful showing at the Lubbock ISD Cross-Country Invitational at Mae Simmons Park last Saturday. In what was more of a regional showcase, the Lady Cats finished second in the Class 3A Division, totaling 94 points.

Art lovers of the Panhandle honored philanthropist Charlotte Rhodes of Amarillo on Sept.19 at The Citadelle Art Museum in Canadian. The “Celebrating Charlotte” reception was hosted by friends Sharon Oeschger and Peggy Berg as a tribute to her work behind many high-profile fundraising campaigns across the state.

During the Canadian Lions Club weekly meeting on Friday, Sept. 17, President Bobby Gregg welcomed Pamela Escarcega (in photo at right) as the new club sweetheart for 2021-22. Each local club selects a high school senior to serve a one-year term as their sweetheart. Club sweethearts attend weekly meetings and serve, alongside other Lions Club members, in various fundraising and service projects.

We were supposed to get the tile backsplash installed in our kitchen yesterday, but my husband, Peter, said he needed to use the kitchen so he could bake ginger cookies. “Can you work in the bathroom today instead?” I asked Meshach, the talented tiler from Kenya, who has been here so long by now that he feels like part of the family.
