Canadian firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a fire that started near the grain elevator at Vaca Corrales, about 10 miles south of Canadian on US 60/83. Propelled by sustained 25- to 30-mph winds out of the north, gusting up to 38 mph, the flames crossed SH 33 into tall, dry grasses, where the firefighters managed to halt their progress.

Canadian defeated Sunray’s Lady Bobcats 9-6 on Monday, thanks to a walk-off triple. The game was tied at 6, with the Lady Cats batting in the bottom of the eighth, when Lilly Bradford tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs.

Canadian High School’s one-act play performance of The Sweet Science of Bruising was one of three plays chosen by judges to advance to the bi-district round of competition. Other schools advancing are River Road and Bushland.

On Monday, March 7, the Canadian Lady Cat golf team competed in Childress. Briley Merket finished the day with 98. Three Lady Cats ended with neck-and-neck scores—Emily Kauk (112), Kamey Kirby (115), and Mylee Adcock (117). Tayln Wright and Haley Baker rounded out the team with scores of 123 and 129, respectively.
