AT THE MUSEUM, we never know what stories we’ll be privy to from day to day. Luckily, today the wind brought in a gentleman who was researching some of his family history. Specifically, he had love letters exchanged between his mom and dad during the time that his father was serving the country in World War II, and this gentleman was tracing his father’s footsteps. A postcard sent in 1943 from the soldier to his family from the Killarney Café in Canadian, Texas, led to our museum for more information. Luckily, we were able to share the following:

The 3A, District 1 UIL Spring Meet was held at West Texas A&M University on Wednesday, March 23. Fifty-three Canadian students competed in the event, garnering a total of 648.5 points to take the overall school championship first-place trophy. An additional 84 metals and nine team plaques were awarded. There are 32 Canadian students advancing to the regional competition, to be held on April 22-23, in Abilene.

Canadian ISD and Hemphill County will host a presentation, “Kids, Teens, and Technology,” by national internet safety expert Katie Greer. Greer’s background is in law enforcement.

Molly Northcott inducted into honor society of Phi Kappa Phi Canadian High School alum Molly Northcott was recently initiated into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Northcott was initiated at Texas Tech University, and she is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.
