A Hemphill County grand jury, meeting in the 31st District courtroom on Thursday, Aug. 25, returned three indictments.

Mesa View hosted its first “Music at Mesa View” event Saturday evening in the center courtyard of Mesa View Senior Living. Sponsored by Mesa View Assisted Living, Mesa View Senior Living, and the Chamber of Commerce, the free concert featured the Slim Pickins band, which has played for Canadian’s Music in the Park series in years past.

Two Canadian High School students have earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. CHS seniors Ben Bryant and Clara Pulliam have been awarded the National Rural/ Small-Town Award.

In a dominating season debut Thursday evening, the Wildcat junior varsity removed all suspense in a productive first half, churning out two touchdowns in the first quarter, four in the second quarter, and one for good measure in the third, while denying Sunray access to their end zone all evening.

The 46-0 rout was underway quickly. Jose Valenzuela’s 30-yard run put up Canadian’s first points, and a Keelan Baileys to Riggs Pennington’s 8-yard pass put the Cats up 12 going into the second quarter.
