The Coffee Memorial Blood Center will hold a Canadian Community Center Blood Drive on Sunday, August 20, from 1 to 4 pm. Look for the Bloodmobile at 905 E. Cheyenne Avenue. Each donor will receive a vintage “Life is Better with Blood Donors” T-shirt and one play card for Cinergy.
A photo ID is required. Donors must be at least 17 years old to donate. Donors who are 16 may donate with a signed parental consent form.
Donald Ray Knight, 75, of Canadian, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in Canadian.

Patrick issues gag order ahead of trial
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick last week issued a sweeping gag order ahead of the impeachment trial of suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Houston Chronicle reported, saying “out-of-court statements” by both sides threaten to jeopardize the trial.
The trial is set to begin Sept. 5.
IT’S NO SECRET that recent years have been tough on small businesses and on newspapers. A bipartisan bill—the Community News & Small Business Support Act—that has been introduced in Congress would offer relief to both newspapers and local businesses. For too many newspapers, help can’t come soon enough.
