Admission to the City Swimming Pool was free on Memorial Day, and the sun was convincingly warm. This crew of lifeguards, and new pool manager Parker Lee, were ready to get to work at 1 pm Monday afternoon as eager swimmers came through the gates. Memorial Day service to be held Monday at Edith Ford Cemetery

Canadian’s annual Memorial Day service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 30, at Edith Ford Cemetery. As is traditional, the service will be conducted by American Legion Post 56. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Jones Pavilion.

WASHINGTON—The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that U.S. Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Louis V. Girard, 20, of West, killed during World War II, was accounted for on March 28, 2022.

Nationwide baby formula shortage probably hits rural families hardest. Here’s what they need to know.

Families nationwide are scrambling to find baby formula amid a widespread shortage. Rural families are likely having an even harder time since there are fewer local places to buy formula, and because families who use federal assistance can only buy certain formulas. It’s even more difficult to find certain medically necessary specialty formulas. Here’s what you need to know:
The limited supply of baby formula was evident Wednesday morning at Canadian's Lowe’s, where store manager Jacque Wagner said they began experiencing shortages in mid-February following the Abbott Nutrition recall. Wagner said she is only able to get Similac Advanced now, which is the preferred formula for the WIC Nutrition program.

Jim Haley’s 20 years of service to the Hemphill County Underground Water Conservation District—and to the residents of Hemphill County—was honored in a reception held Thursday afternoon at the water district offices. Family, friends, staff members, and fellow board members, both past and present, were on hand to thank Haley for his tireless work on their behalf.
Retiring HCUWCD Chairman Jim Haley was honored in a Thursday reception prior to his last official board meeting, and was presented with a beautiful leather bag by District General Manager Janet Guthrie, who sent him packing. In the background are the new generation of directors who have stepped up to lead the district, including (from left) Spencer Hanes, Tom Isaacs, and Craig Cowden.
