Familiar faces will return to the Hemphill County Hospital Board and the Canadian ISD board of trustees with the addition of one new face on the hospital board following Saturday’s election. Cody Culwell was the top vote-getter in both contested races with 48 percent of votes cast for one of two open slots on Canadian ISD’s school board.

HCH finalizes COVID purchases

Taking up acquisitions of property and equipment for the district, the Hemphill County Hospital Board approved two sets of purchases in its April 20 meeting. CEO Christy Francis first provided a list of expenses that will be funded through the remainder of the $3.5 million CARES Act Provider Relief Fund.

County awards Amarillo firm bid to build new radio tower

Hemphill County commissioners awarded the contract for construction of a new emergency radio communication tower here to Amarillo’s CommTech LLC, for the low bid of $107,373. Eight bids were received—ranging as high as $170,325—from companies in locations ranging from Florida to Indiana, and from Kentucky to Iowa.

Walk-in vaccine clinics scheduled Thursday and Saturday The Hemphill County Hospital has scheduled two walk-in vaccine clinics this week—one to be held this evening, Thursday, April 29, from 5-7 pm, and the other, a Vote + Vaccine Saturday, to accommodate local voters heading to the polls on Saturday, May 1. While voting will be conducted from 7 am to 7 pm that day, the clinic will be held only from 10 am to 2 pm.
