Hemphill County commissioners awarded the contract for construction of a new emergency radio communication tower here to Amarillo’s CommTech LLC, for the low bid of $107,373. Eight bids were received—ranging as high as $170,325—from companies in locations ranging from Florida to Indiana, and from Kentucky to Iowa.

Joe Van Zandt was named 2020 Rancher of the Year, and Steve Rader was awarded 2021 Rancher of the Year on Tuesday evening as the pandemic-postponed Texas A&M AgriLife Hemphill County Beef Conference celebrated their agricultural careers and contributions to their communities.

Wheeler County’s Joe Van Zandt and Hemphill County’s Steve Rader were the Ranchers of the Year honorees for 2020 and 2021, and were recognized during this week’s Texas A&M AgriLife Beef Conference Tuesday evening.

Council reverses action on apartment complex, goes up for bid again on Tuesday, May 4

Without discussion last Monday evening, Canadian’s City Council members voted unanimously—upon the advice of counsel— to rescind action taken during their March 18 meeting striking the Canadian Apartment complex property from the tax rolls and forgiving the back taxes owed by owners Barbara and Galen Lusk.

Walk-in vaccine clinics scheduled Thursday and Saturday The Hemphill County Hospital has scheduled two walk-in vaccine clinics this week—one to be held this evening, Thursday, April 29, from 5-7 pm, and the other, a Vote + Vaccine Saturday, to accommodate local voters heading to the polls on Saturday, May 1. While voting will be conducted from 7 am to 7 pm that day, the clinic will be held only from 10 am to 2 pm.
