Two accidents in two days have responders on alert

Emergency responders and law enforcement officers were called to two accidents in two days at the start of the week—the first a one-vehicle rollover Monday on CR 6, south of Canadian, and the second a two-vehicle collision on US 33 near CR 21 southeast of town.

Commissioners wrestle providing full-time 911 dispatch service to Roberts County and fireworks enforcement

Commissioners endorsed an interlocal agreement on Monday allowing the Hemphill County Sheriff’s Office to handle dispatch and 911 calls for the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office—a service HCSO dispatchers have already been handling on a part-time basis, but for which it will now assume the responsibility 24/7, if officials in the two counties can agree on reasonable compensation to cover the costs.

Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) told area news stations last week that he is planning to run for re-election, but the first-term U.S. Representative has already attracted an opponent in Wichita Falls attorney Kathleen Brown. Brown said she made her decision on Jan. 6, the day that an angry mob—at the urging of former President Donald Trump— stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to disrupt the process of certifying the electoral college vote.
