Texas RRC releases March ‘22 drilling permit and completion stats AUSTIN—The Texas Railroad Commission issued a total of 1,176 original drilling permits in March 2022 compared to 798 in March 2021. The March 2022 total includes 1,035 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, seven to re-enter plugged wellbores, and 113 for recompletions of existing wellbores.

USDA to provide payments to livestock producers impacted by drought or wildfire

WASHINGTON—The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) last week announced that ranchers who have approved applications through the 2021 Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) for forage losses due to severe drought or wildfire in 2021 will soon begin receiving emergency relief payments for increases in supplemental feed costs in 2021 through the Farm Service Agency’s (FSA) new Emergency Livestock Relief Program (ELRP).

State sales tax revenue totaled $3.4B in March

AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.37 billion in March, 28.5 percent more than in March 2021; however, after adjusting last year’s March totals to account for February sales tax returns not collected until March 2021 due to Winter Storm Uri, March 2022 sales tax revenue was up 37.2 percent over comparable collections last year.

AUSTIN-The Texas Railroad Commission issued a total of 836 original drilling permits in February 2022 compared to 606 in February 2021. The February 2022 total includes 700 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, eight to re-enter plugged wellbores, and 119 for recompletions of existing wellbores. The breakdown of well types for original drilling permits in February 2022 is 181 oil, 81 gas, 518 oil or gas, 46 injection, and 10 other permits. In February 2022, commission staff processed 580 oil, 115 gas, and 124 injection completions for new drills, re-entries, and recompletions, compared to 482 oil, 107 gas, and 89 injection completions in February 2021. Total well completions processed for 2022 year-to-date for new drills, re-entries, and recompletions are 1,747 compared to 1,663 recorded during the same period in 2021. In the Panhandle, four permits to drill oil or gas holes were issued in February, while new oil completions and four gas completions were reported. Governor issues disaster declarations for counties hit by wildfires, tornadoes

On Friday, March 18, in response to news of strong winds fueling the rapid spread of wildfires across the state, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for 11 counties in multiple regions. The declaration allowed Brooks, Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Grayson, Mason, Potter, Randall, Reynolds, and Williamson counties to use all available state resources to respond to the fires.

Comptroller distributes $913M in sales tax revenue statewide

AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced last week that he would send cities, counties, transit systems, and special-purpose taxing districts $913.3 million in local sales tax allocations for March, 19.8 percent more than in March 2021. These allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.
