CMS robotics team earns Judges Award

Body
The CMS Galactic Builders earned the Judges Award at the FIRST Tech Challenge Panhandle North League Tournament held on Feb. 1, 2020, at Frank Philips College. This team competed against 31 district teams, of which only three were middle school teams. This year’s Judges Award was presented to the Galactic Builders based on their presentation and interview with the judges where they demonstrated growth as a rookie team in a league dominated by high school ones. Team members included (standing, left to right) Xander McQuiddy-Gasparlin, Karson Thompson, Morgan Orrell, Kenzie Flowers, Ethan Gerhardt; and (kneeling) Andrea Cedillo and Miranda Nunez. Their instructors are Bruce Bryant and Chara Brown.

THE IOWA DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS was messy, but revealing. Young voters voted for the oldest candidate, Bernie Sanders (78), and older voters preferred the youngest candidate, Pete Buttigieg (38). Given that Iowa is not a typical U.S. state, as far as demographics go, maybe the pattern will not be repeated in other state primaries. Still, the Iowa caucus results are interesting considering the projected demographic patterns for the 2020-2030 decade.
