The Canadian Wildcats (2-0) will meet the Bushland Falcons (0-2) in Friday evening’s CHS Homecoming matchup, and at halftime, the CHS Homecoming Court will be presented and the Homecoming Queen announced.

The traditional ‘Lighting of the C’ was performed at 8 pm Wednesday night. Friday’s homecoming festivities will begin at 3 pm with a pep rally at the CHS gym, followed at by a tailgate party sponsored by the Canadian Education Foundation, which will be serving barbeque plate dinners from 5-7 pm to all hometown fans, free with their admission.

CEF board members will be working the gates Friday evening, and the evening’s gate proceeds will go to help support the Foundation’s student scholarships and other activities.

At 6:30 pm, prior to kickoff, the CHS Honor Team, comprised of football team members, coaches, cheerleaders, drum majors and twirlers from the 1975-76 school year, will be presented. That team was the first to play on the then-new football field at Wildcat Stadium. A Homecoming Dance will follow the game at Wildcat Stadium, weather permitting.

The junior class will offer face painting at Friday’s game for a cost of $3/one side and $5/both. Look them up at the concession stand, starting at 6 pm. In addition, the Canadian/Hemphill County Chamber of Commerce will be at the stadium selling Homecoming Auds for $10/each.

This year’s Homecoming Queen candidates and princesses are as follows:

Senior Queen Candidate Mya Sanchez

Mya’s favorite school subject is English, she says, because she treasures the scenery and imagination that are full of possibilities from nothing but words. She is a member of the Spirit Club, Spanish Club, FCA, Youth Group, Student Council, and SADD. In her free time, Mya prefers being outside with her animals; going to the lake to water ski and tube; and writing, playing her guitar, and singing.

Mya is the daughter of Javier Sanchez and Kristen Kelley Ward. Her parents and aunt are her role models—her mother, because she is her rock, “who helps to always come back to myself when something is wrong;” her dad, because “he has never missed a day of telling me to follow my dreams and to never give up;” and her Aunt Rosie, “because she taught me that I don’t need anyone to be happy, and I can be a strong, independent woman all on my own.”

Upon her graduation from CHS, Mya plans to attend South Plains College for their music program, and hopes to be a voice coach and give voice lessons. She will be escorted by Aiden Dickinson at the pep rally, and by her father at the game.

Senior Queen Candidate Leslie Villa

Leslie’s favorite subject is English, “because it comes easy to me, and I really enjoy it.” She participates in tennis, band, FCCLA, Spirit Club, and Spanish Club. When not in school, Leslie likes to read and walk around town, and on the weekend, to spend time with her friends and watch movies.

Her role models are her parents, Gabriel Reyes and Maria Villa. Following graduation, Leslie plans to attend college and to become a labor and delivery nurse.

She will be escorted by Abraham Moreno during the homecoming court ceremony.

Senior Queen Candidate Susie Flores

Susie’s favorite subject is Algebra. She says it uses critical thinking, and helps improve problem-solving skills, “not only in the classroom but in the real world.” She also enjoys playing with numbers and solving mathematical problems, because “finding the answer gives me a boost of confidence.”

Susie is a member of the CHS Student Council, and is involved in the Spirit Club, the Spanish Club, FCA, and is the manager of the Lady Cat varsity basketball team. On the weekends, Susie likes to visit her sisters—Montzy and Julie—in Amarillo, and to spend time with her family. “My hobbies consist of drawing/painting, playing games with my little brothers, hanging out with friends, jewelry design, and making Tik-Toks with Mya and her cat.

Her role models are her parents, Mario and Sandra Flores. “Through their everyday actions,” she says, “I’ve learned love, patience, kindness, and selflessness on a whole other level. They lead me to the cross daily, and are both examples of who I want to be like as I continue to grow up.” Her message to them: “Thank you, mom and dad, for everything you do for me. I love you both endlessly.”

Susie is still undecided about her future career, but hopes to attend either Midwestern State University to pursue a career in radiology, or West Texas A&M University, where she wants to become a nurse anesthetist. “Besides college,” she says, “I’m excited to start a family of my own, and to grow old with my significant other.”

Susie will be escorted by Angel Garcia at the pep rally, and by her dad on the field during halftime ceremonies.

Junior Princess Clara Pulliam

Clara Pulliam enjoys her art classes at CHS most, because she appreciates the ability to express herself in different ways, and to create new things. In her spare time, she likes to read, run, and work on her art. “My favorite way to spend a weekend is going on a run with my mom in the morning, and then hanging with friends,” she says.

Clara is a CHS cheerleader and is involved, as well, in tennis, Student Council, VASE, the One-Act Play, and UIL events. Her role models are her parents—Lynn and Lawana Pulliam—and her brother, Stephen. “They all work incredibly hard and strive to do their best every day,” Clara said.

Following her graduation from CHS next year, Clara plans to attend college in Colorado, and while she hasn’t determined a major, she is particularly interested in business and law.

Clara’s escorts will be Sam Kendall for the pep rally, and her father, Lynn Pulliam, during Friday night’s homecoming court ceremony.

Sophomore Princess Samantha Krehbiel

Samantha Krehbiel loves Mrs. J. Brown’s English class, she says, “because we are open to be ourselves, and she is very encouraging and supportive.”

Samantha also enjoys her participation in athletics, church youth, the Spirit Club, and Student Council. When not in school, she also likes to drink coffee and hang out with friends.

Samantha is the daughter of John Sam and Kendra Krehbiel and says her family is her role model. “They have taught me to always be kind to others,” she says, “and they push me to be a better person, a better athlete, and a better Christian…and for that, I will forever be grateful.”

Samantha plans to go into the medical field following her graduation from CHS.

She will be escorted by her brother, Jake Krehbiel, at the pep rally, and by her father, John Sam, during halftime ceremonies.

Freshman Princess Konnar McClendon

Konnar McClendon’s favorite school subject is math, she says, “because I enjoy the challenge.” She is also involved in crosscountry and track.

While not at school, Konnar enjoys running cross-country and taking naps, and relaxing and watching TV. Following her graduation, Konnar plans to go to college, and to work with kids. Konnar is the daughter of Kara Perry, Ike McClendon, Matt Perry, and Kimberly McClendon. She will be escorted during the homecoming court ceremony by Landry Cantu.
