LONE STAR ANGEL PROJECT (LSAP) is a local nonprofit organization established several years ago by a group of remarkable community women who saw a need to help the children of Hemphill County. Their view was simple: to level the playing field for all our kids and to provide basic needs for those children whose families were struggling financially. Through donations, LSAP has provided clothing, food, payment of medical care, mental healthcare, dental care, and vision care to numerous children in Hemphill County. These are kids who would otherwise miss meals, sit in class unable to concentrate because of a toothache, attend school without a coat on a freezing day, or struggle to cope with life issues due to mental health problems. Some families are left to choose between groceries or paying for an eye exam, dental exam, or medical visit. LSAP hopes to alleviate some of that burden for our local kids.

Most donations are given by community members and businesses, and every amount, small or large, makes a difference. During COVID-19 and the recent economic situation in our area, LSAP stepped in and helped many families pay for utilities, groceries, clothing, and medical care. While the requests and needs increased during this time, our donations were also reflective of the economic downturn. As a board, we are committed to being the best stewards possible of the funds generously given by our community, and we make sure every penny counts to help the kids in need. Each request is considered carefully and on an individual basis. In our experience, those that require the most help often have a hard time asking for it, and needs usually arise due to unforeseen difficulties. Many of the requests we receive are identified by an observant teacher, a friend, a pastor, or a coworker. Our children deserve to have food on their tables, warm clothes on a cold day, and to be able to attend school without worrying because they have no running water at home or access to medical care.

All donations to LSAP remain in Hemphill County, helping local children and are tax deductible. Recently, we received a donation from the students of the Baker Elementary Runners Club, who gathered coins and dollars, hoping to impact fellow students. These children understand the importance of helping others which comes from generous parents and community members instilling those principles.

Please join us in leveling the playing field for all kids. If you would like to donate to LSAP, mail a check to PO Box 303, Canadian, TX 79014. We appreciate everyone who has donated in the past and look forward to continuing the legacy of our founding board members.
