Allen Elvin “Sam” Meadows, 89, of Briscoe, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, in Canadian. Services were held at 3 pm on Sunday, June 23, at the Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, with Pastor Erron Mercer officiating. Burial followed in the Wheeler Cemetery. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.

Sam was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Wheeler, to Gertrude Cole and Allen Meadows. He was the first baby to be born in the Wheeler Hospital, or what is now the current Townsquare Inn. He married Barbara Mitchell on June 26, 1956, in Wheeler. Allen was a resident of Hemphill County for his entire life. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was drafted to Germany and served in the 504th AAA Operations Detachment. He had worked in farming and ranching his entire life outside of the military, and it is what he truly loved to do. He served on the Boer Goat Association board and was the first man to bring Boar goats to the Texas Panhandle. Allen also served as a Briscoe School Board member.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Meadows of Briscoe; a daughter, Brenda and her husband Ernie Wood of Colorado City; two sons, Mike and wife Rolanda Meadows, and Mark and wife Mandy Meadows, both of Briscoe; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Briscoe Volunteer Fire Department; or the Cornerstone Church in Wheeler.
