Myrna Ellen Smith Jenkins, age 87, of Darrouzett, Texas, passed away at Mesa View Senior Living in Canadian, on April 17, 2024. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Myrna was born to Harold and Vera Smith on July 13, 1936, in Brownsville, Texas. She married Charles Henry Jenkins on May 7, 1955. She is survived by her four daughters, Beth Cook and husband Thomas of Coppell; Lynda Ross and wife Susan Neeley of St. George, Utah; Pamela Jenkins of Cedar Hill; and Charlene Duke of Darrouzett; her brother, Dennis Smith of Bedias, and her sister- in-law, Nan Smith of Roswell, New Mexico. Six grandchildren also survive her: James and John Cook, Kara Donnelly, Katyln and husband, Drew Watkins, R. D. and Mabry Duke, and Draylen and Brantly Duke; as well as two great-grandsons, Mason and Eclan Watkins; one great-granddaughter, Scarlett Rayne Watkins; and other loving family members and friends. Her parents Harold and Vera Smith and her brother, Burris Smith, preceded her death.

Myrna was a third-grade teacher, reading specialist, and ESL teacher in Frisco for Frisco ISD at Acker Elementary. She later moved to Darrouzett, and taught in Follett for Follett ISD. She ended her teaching career substitute teaching in Darrouzett. Myrna’s teaching career impacted all of her daughters. Each of them serves in a teaching capacity within their careers.

She later worked at the Darrouzett Post Office as a Relief Postal Clerk.

Myrna loved working on beautiful handcrafts such as crochet, knitting, sewing, and macramé. She also loved working in her yard and tending to her flower beds.

We are honoring our mother’s request of not having a gravesite or memorial service. She is loved and will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hemphill County Hospice (https://hchdst.org/home-care/) or to the Darrouzett Education Foundation (https://www.darrouzettisd.net/281681_2).
