Bettye Marceille Parr Jones, 81, of Canadian and formerly of Beaumont, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Mesa View Senior Living in Canadian.

Memorial services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, May 9, at First Presbyterian Church in Canadian, with Rev. Mert Cooper officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Bettye was born January 19, 1943, to Joseph Milton and Marceille Bell Parr in Vernon. She graduated from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth and later received her master’s degree from Texas Women’s University in Denton. Bettye was a County Extension agent for many years in Cleburne, Johnson County and in Beaumont, Jefferson County. She enjoyed connecting with people and helping where she was needed. In December of 1987, she married Richard Jones, he passed away in 2007.  Bettye was instrumental in encouraging her son, Milton, to learn to cook and compete in county food shows. She also encouraged him to show animals throughout his younger years growing up.

For several years it was just Bettye and Milton. Bettye enjoyed cooking, reading cookbooks, writing and typing new recipes as well as completing crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, each of them was very special to her. Her favorite title other than mom was Meemaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Richard W. Jones; sister and brother-in-law, ZoElla and Jerry Thomas; and a sister, Twylia Parr.

Survivors include her son, Milton Cooke and wife Julie of Canadian; three grandchildren, Marceille “Marcee” Cooke of Rogers, Arkansas, Cody Cooke and Caden Cooke both of Canadian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mesa View Assisted and Senior Living or Hemphill County 4H Foundation.
