Venita Conway, 68, of Amarillo, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. No services are scheduled at this time.

Venita also known to many as “Pete,” was born June 21, 1954, in Canadian, Texas, to Rudene “Boots” and Lucille Matthews. She married her high school sweetheart Bob Conway, at the age of 17, on September 3, 1971, in Durham, Oklahoma, and they had one child. Venita dedicated her life to caring for her family, and was a wonderful wife and mother. She and Bob enjoyed traveling all over the U.S., including going an Alaskan cruise. They had several moves in their 51 years of marriage, going wherever Bob’s career took them. Venita always had a sweet spirit with every fresh start. Among her hobbies were gardening and canning food. She had a beautiful singing voice, but was far too humble to admit it. She loved singing along with Bobby Vinton music. She enjoyed eating Big Hunk candy bars and people watching.

To say that Venita was a very talented quilter is an extreme understatement. Her quilts were stunning and her stitches impeccable; she had a quilt shop in the back of their house. Venita hand quilted all her pieces over the years, until it began to hurt her hands to do so. Then, she began using a long-arm quilter. In 2018, she swept the Tri-State Fair textiles arena, winning 1st Place for all her entries that year. Venita was a very kind-hearted and humble person who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Calvin Hillman; and a sister, Phyllis Spruell.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Conway; Hayden Eagleston and Shae Eagleston of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Ann Hillman of Victoria, TX, and Frannie Wylie and husband Larry of Checotah, OK; a brother, Tom Campbell and wife Kim of Amarillo; three grandchildren by love, Levi, Maya and Jeremy; and four great-grandchildren by love, Jude, Piper, Lennox, and Jacobie.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caring staff of BSA Hospice of the Southwest, especially Tonya, Theresa and Janna, for their loving care of Venita.
