Last week, Canadian High School competed in the 3A District meet for Academic and Speech UIL, dominating the competition with 802 points and earning the championship trophy. Competitors included Bushland, Spearman, River Road, Dalhart, and Tulia. The top 3 in each event advance to Regionals, along with the first place teams. Numerous participants earned a spot at the Regional UIL Meet April 21-22.

At district, Junior Laney Hood broke the school record in UIL Calculator, surpassing past high scores ranging from 190-220. As a sophomore, she had the highest Regional score (252). In years past (2010-2016), Canadian has had many state qualifiers for UIL Calculator, but last year, Laney had a State score of 231. She is also the first student in school history to advance in 2 subjects (Science and Calculator) as a sophomore to the State UIL Meet.
