A Report by Dr. Julia McMains, CISD Superintendent
The Canadian ISD Board of Trustees met for their regular February meeting to receive mid-year updates, review district data, and take action on several instructional and operational items.
Recognitions
No formal recognitions were scheduled during the February meeting.
District Reports and Updates
Trustees received a presentation on the Rural Pathway Excellence Partnership, outlining opportunities for expanded career pathways and collaboration through Region 16 Education Service Center.
The Board reviewed the monthly enrollment and attendance report, along with facilities and capital project updates. These reports provided insight into current campus needs and the status of ongoing work across the district.
Trustees also received a presentation on district demographics and facilities, helping frame long-term planning conversations. The meeting concluded with a Mid-Year State of the District presentation, which highlighted progress toward district goals and priorities at the midpoint of the school year.
Board Action Items
The Board authorized the Superintendent to finalize and execute the performance agreement initiating participation in the Rural Pathway Excellence Partnership coordinated by Region 16 Education Service Center for a three-year term.
Trustees discussed and approved a resolution related to Senate Bill 11, a new state law that requires school boards to vote on whether to adopt a policy providing a daily period of prayer and the reading of religious texts on each school day. In choosing to vote no on this part of SB 11, the Board noted that students already have the right to pray or engage in religious expression individually or in groups under existing law, without adding a mandated prayer period with set times, consent forms, or oversight. The Board’s intent was to preserve those existing freedoms and avoid adding a formal structure that could limit when and how students’ voluntary prayer practices take place.
The Board approved the HB 2 delay of teacher certification waiver and considered local policy updates to reflect District of Innovation provisions.
Trustees approved the purchase of additional radios to support communication and operational safety across the district.
Budget amendments were also approved as part of routine financial oversight.
Executive Session
The Board entered executive session to discuss personnel matters and to consider employment of school district administrators and administrator employment contracts.
Action After Executive Session
Following executive session, the Board took action on school district administrator employment contracts.
The next meeting will be on March 10, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.
