OBITUARY: SANDRA GOROHOFF
August 31, 1941 — January 25, 2026
Sandra Gorohoff, 84, passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, January 25, 2026, with her family by her side.
Sandra Gorohoff was born Sandra Carolyn Waters on August 31, 1941, in Canadian, Texas. She was the eldest child of Oliver and Mable Ruth Waters. Sandra grew up between the town of Canadian and the family ranch to the north. After graduating from Canadian High School, she attended Baylor University to complete her bachelor's degree.
Following graduation, Sandra moved to Bakersfield, California, where she worked in local schools for a year. With support from the Department of Education, Sandra moved to Seattle, Washington, to begin her graduate studies in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Washington. While there, she met her future husband, Ken Gorohoff, the man who would later become her husband of 59 years. Sandra graduated with her master’s degree in 1966, and married Ken the next year in 1967.
Throughout her professional career, Sandra worked for Community Home Healthcare Agency, working with children and older adults. She would later go on to work for Seattle Speech and Hearing at Ballard Hospital. After the passing of her father in 1994, she took a brief hiatus before continuing to work for the Shoreline School district where she would ultimately retire in 2003.
Sandra loved traveling with her family. She spent most summers in the mountains of northern New Mexico in the community of Idlewild or visiting family in her hometown of Canadian. She travelled to Russia as part of a speech therapy delegation and later to Italy and France with her husband, and went on several cruises with her family. Her favorite place of all, however, was Hawaii.
For most of her life, Sandra lived in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood and was an active member of Magnolia Presbyterian Church, where she served as both deacon and elder. She was also a long-time member of the Women’s University Club, and for over 30 years, she cherished her gourmet potluck dinner club with the same close circle of eight friends.
Sandra is preceded in death by her late parents, Oliver and Mable Ruth Waters, and brother Thomas Waters. She is survived by her husband Kenneth, her three sons Andrew (Kathy), Alex (Anna), and Nick, and five grandchildren, Siena, Nadia, Oliver, Greta, and Esther.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandra’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org, or Seattle Children’s hospital.
A memorial service will be held at Mirabella Seattle at 1 pm on Saturday February 21.
