OBITUARY: SAMUEL DEE DOTY
April 25, 1939 — November 22, 2025
Samuel Dee Doty greeted his sunrise on April 25, 1939, born to Elmer Richard Doty and Katy Lowrance Doty, and was lovingly carried into his sunset on November 22, 2025, at age 86.
Sam was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elmer and Katy Doty, by brother Larry Joe Doty, and by grandson Trey Nabb.
Sam is survived by his wife, Ronda Doty of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; his brother Richard Doty; his sister Anna Gunter Sowda; his youngest sister Ella Kay Beal, who passed after him on December 12, 2025; two sons, Michael Doty and Sam S. Doty; three daughters, Sherry Hutchison, Sheba Parker and Michelle (Chelley) Doty; and two bonus children, Tony and Jessica.
Sam’s legacy is passed down through 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Becoming Grandpa was one of the greatest joys of his life. Sam especially loved Thanksgiving. There were endless stories shared in the garage. Every Thanksgiving he would look down the length of the tables surrounded by his family and give a speech on how “that’s what life was all about.” One of the great-grandchildren said, upon his passing, “There wont be any more Thanksgivings because Thanksgiving was being with grandpa.”
Sam began his working life in the oilfield, starting at the bottom and working his way forward through grit, determination and integrity. Along the way, he built lifelong friendships that reflected the respect people had for him.
Between that sunrise and sunset, Sam lived a life shaped by hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for family, land and the simple joys that mattered most. Strong, dependable and stubborn in the best way. Sam was a man of his word, and the toughest man we’ve ever known.
Sam loved hunting, fishing, collecting guns and knives, arrowheads, and rock hunting. In his later years, he spent his days with his ranch partners Ronda and her sister grace tending his cows. His longhorns were his favorites.
A Celebration of Life honoring Sam was held on December 21, 2025, at his beloved ranch in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
