Body

Carmal Ann “Clay” Arnold, age 74, left this earthly life on April 19, 2026 in Mangum, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 2, 1951, in Billings, Montana.

Carmal Ann was a woman of depth and contrast, adventurous, artistic, and incredibly intelligent. Her spontaneous road trips are what make her such a legend with her family and friends. She had a servant’s heart and found joy in visiting her people, building friendships, and showing up for others in meaningful ways. She was a loyal and devoted friend, and her presence left a lasting mark on many.

She taught more than she likely ever realized, through her creativity, her strength, and the way she lived. Her impact and the love she gave will stay with us always. Her life held both beauty and hardship, and those experiences became part of the story she carried.

She was preceded in death by her father, Woody Gene Clay; her husband, Lee Alan Arnold; and her son, Jon Tomas “JT” Arnold.

She is survived by her mother Lois Ann Clay, her daughters, Shareen and Robert Salsman, and Jenny and Eric Gambill; her sisters, Starla and Cameron Birdsong, Teri and William Mueller, Cheryl and Max Marsh, and Darlene and Aaron Calder; and her grandchildren, Julia and Adam Engel along with great-grandson Reed Cameron William Engel, Haley and Baylor Downing, Michael Murray, Clay Barrett, Tegan Gambill, and Sarah Barrett.

She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Woody “Marty” Borst, Andy Borst, Chuck Grayson, Frank Wayne “Scooter” Sims III, Dominica Lynn Hagelberg, Zachary Elias Mueller, Joe Marsh, Ben Marsh, Anna McQuiddy, Kristy Taylor, Hattie Wales, and Joni Grayson along with numerous great and great-great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carmal Ann will be remembered for her spirit, her creativity, and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her.

A celebration of life will take place in Canadian, Texas, on Carmal Ann’s 75th birthday this coming October. The family will send out information regarding the gathering.
