March blood drive in Canadian nets a bounty of much-needed donations
Canadian blood donors rose to the occasion last week, answering the call for much-needed O NEG and B NEG donations, and in doing so, stacking up blood credits for Canadian native Chris Campbell, a volunteer firefighter who was seriously injured in the February 17 wildfire in Beaver County, Oklahoma. Campbell has required several blood transfusions during his hospitalization in Oklahoma City, and every unit donated on Chris’s behalf last week helped offset his family’s medical expenses.
“Canadian!! You are the absolute best!!” said Lindsay Sullivan of the Coffee Memorial Blood Center, when she delivered the good news. “Twenty-five forms were completed for Chris!”
Canadian was well-represented, with 37 donors signing in—32 of whom were able to donate 23 Whole Blood and 9 Power Reds. Two of those were first-time donors, 19 were O+ donors, and 6 provided O- blood.
Sullivan also promised a follow-up report on the Kids Inc. Donor Days 2026 blood donation event, held in conjunction with last week’s blood drive, in which donors were urged to write in Canadian High School when they gave blood. The winning school will receive $2,000 to purchase items that are outside of the basic budget, and seniors who donated were entered into a drawing for one of four $1,000 scholarships.
“We could not have made this happen on our own!” Sullivan said. “I can't thank you enough!!”
Sullivan noted that the next blood drive will be conducted here on May 28 with a Route 66 promotion.
