OBITUARY: JAMES ROY ‘J.R.’ GILL

Body

James Roy “J.R.” Gill—father, husband, grandfather, lifelong adventurer and proud Aggie—passed away May 1. At age 95, he left the world peacefully in his sleep.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 11, at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX. Interment will follow at his birthplace of Miami, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Body

George A. Snell III, 77, gained heaven on January 15, 2026, peacefully, with his wife by his side, a week after their 54th wedding anniversary.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Hillside Christian Church West Campus, 6100 S. Soncy. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

At age 92 years, Bill Jones, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, teacher / coach and friend, stepped into his eternal reward with Jesus following a prolonged decline in his health. He was born to Tate and Maggie Jones in Dougherty, Texas. He grew up on the family farm and attended schools in Dougherty and Floydada.

JERRY W. FAULKNER

Body

Jerry W. Faulkner, 75 of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on October 24, 2025, with his son and his sister by his side. Services will be held in the spring of 2026.

Jerry Faulkner was born on August 13, 1950, in Princeton, Indiana, to John and Arminta (Becky) Faulkner. He graduated from Canadian High School in 1968 and served in the U.S Navy for 4 years on the submarine USS Cutlass stationed in Morocco. Jerry worked mainly in the oil, gas and mining industries.

Eleanor Glazener passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Amarillo.

Eleanor's memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, October 24, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 S Harrison Street in Amarillo. 

A short informal burial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 25, at the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian near the gazebo.

Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Sally Cox, 73, of Canadian and formerly of Amarillo, passed away on September 30, 2025, in Amarillo surrounded by family.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Roberts County Cemetery in Miami, with Monty Wheeler officiating. Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Friday at the funeral home in Canadian.

Marvin Lee “Mert” Cooper, 83, of Canadian, surrounded by family, passed to the other side of the river on August 30, 2025.

A celebration of Mert’s life will be held at 2 pm, Monday, September 8, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church of Canadian. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Sheryl A. Ferguson Hoover, age 81, of Amarillo, passed away on August 29 surrounded by loved ones at home.

Born on June 7, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, Sheryl was the beloved child of Howard and Muriel Ferguson. She grew up in Los Angeles, California, graduated from Westchester High School and later went on to marry WD Hoover and move to Canadian, where they lived out their lives together and have a beautiful daughter named Amber Dawn Hoover.

OBITUARY: PATRICIA SUE HOWE

Patricia (Pat) Sue Howe, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in Amarillo, at the age of 88. Born on February 14, 1936, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, to James and Margaret Giles, she was blessed to grow up in a Christian home.

Memorial service for Pat is Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10 am at Temple Baptist Church with her niece Sherye Talley officiating. Visitation is Thursday, January 2, from 5 to 7 pm at Rector Funeral Home.

OBITUARY: MARVIN RAY LONGHOFER

Body

Marvin Ray Longhofer peacefully passed away September 22, 2024, surrounded by his wife Sharon, and all of his children and grandchildren, in Longview, Texas.

Marvin and Sharon were long-time members at The Church of Uncertain at Caddo Lake. A memorial service was held there on September 28, 2024.

A graveside service will be held in Canadian, at the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery on October 26, 2024, at 10:30 am with Gary Jahnel officiating.
