Candidate filing gains momentum for candidates seeking a place on the ballot in the May 3 city council, hospital, and school board elections. With nine open seats at stake, seven candidates have filed in the past three weeks.

City councilwoman Jonilyn Hanes is the latest candidate to throw her hat into the re-election ring. Terrill Bartlett filed for another term as Mayor of the City of Canadian last week. Two council seats are up for grabs this spring—those of Hanes and Matt Cippolone. No other candidates have filed.

Chase Smyth has filed for the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees, joining Ashton Macias and Bryan Bartlett, each of whom have filed for re-election. This year, the terms of Bartlett, Macias and Andy Orrell will expire.

Travis Macias has filed as a candidate for the Hemphill County Hospital District Board of Directors, joining Whitney Jones, who has filed for re-election. This year, the terms of board members Cory Pittman, Colby Leach, and Whitney Jones will each expire.
