UPDATE: Thirteen candidates file in city, school, hospital elections
LOCAL ELECTION UPDATE
Before Friday’s filing deadline in the May 3 elections, thirteen candidates had signed up for nine open seats, setting up contested races for both school and hospital boards.
Candidates for three open seats on the Hemphill County Hospital District Board of Directors are incumbents Whitney Jones, Colby Leach and Cory Pittman, as well as former board member Jesse Hanes and newcomer Travis Macias.
Six candidates filed for three open seats on the Canadian Independent School District Board of Trustees: Ashton Macias and Bryan Bartlett both filed for re-election. Chase Smyth, Shannon Woodrum, Tatum Pennington and Kent Sisco each announced as candidates, as well. Long-time board member Andy Orrell chose not to seek re-election.
Terrill Bartlett signed up for another term as Mayor of Canadian. Jonilyn Hanes filed for re-election to the City Council, while fellow council member Matt Cipollone opted out, leaving one seat unfilled.
