Twenty-three royalty owners, and professionals who work closely with them, including land men, engineers, and CPAs, spent three days in Canadian last week at the first session of the Royalty Owners Institute to be held off-site from the Texas Christian University and Angelo State campuses. Dr John Baum and his team pronounced the “rural” location experiment an exciting success. Landowners and professionals from Tyler, San Angelo, Lubbock, Amarillo, and Dallas traveled to Canadian to join 15 Hemphill and Lipscomb County residents for the intensive studies on Texas’ energy law; leasing the mineral estate; and critical issues for managing and preserving mineral interests, both short term and for generations to come. Visitors also found time to enjoy their first taste of Canadian. Highlights cited in their review of the week included Canadian’s great restaurants, driving tours of the community’s historic homes and buildings, walking the Wagon Bridge each night, and the guided special tour of The Citadelle. However, the first order of business on arrival for Albany attorney Glen Webb, the Institute’s instructor, was to visit Wildcat Stadium and its facilities to try to learn the secret behind Wildcat domination of Texas high school football.
