“What a historic career he has had,” said CISD Superintendent Kyle Lynch. “He has done a fantastic job in the way of wins and losses. He and Darcie have helped our young ladies grow to become people we can be proud of.”

“Kevin has impacted a lot of lives, and I’m proud of everything he has done,” he said. “I wish him and his family the best of luck.”

“It’s always sad to see someone go,” Lynch concluded, “but Coach Richardson is leaving our program in good shape, with a reputation that will help us recruit his successor.”

Commenting on this year’s high turnover in staff members—including his own announced departure for Seminole ISD to take over as superintendent—Lynch said, “These cycles just come and go. My second year as superintendent, we had over 20 vacancies, and were scrambling for housing for new teachers. I don’t believe it is the result of anything other than our success as a district.”

“Change is always scary,” he said, “but when you think about it, 80 percent of the bad things that could happen, never happen.”

We are going to miss Kevin for sure. Kevin is a tremendous basketball coach and a great man, [who] had a huge impact on the lives of our Lady Cats that he coached. His success speaks for itself. Kevin developed one of the top programs in the Panhandle and the state of Texas. The one thing I admired about Coach Richardson the most is his emphasis on fundamentals and defense. Kevin’s teams were always fundamentally sound and always played extremely hard. I also admired how consistent Coach Richardson’s teams were. Some teams will have some really good players and win for a while and win a bunch of games. Then they will fade away. But the Lady Cats were consistent winners every year, and that is not easy to do year in and year out. We wish Kevin the best. I have no doubt his winning ways will continue for many years to come.

Coach, I can’t tell you how sad I am to see you go, but I know that you’ll do great things at Wall. You could not have taken better care of me throughout my numerous injuries during my basketball career, and you taught me to fight for what I want. Thank you for taking care of us as your own, and helping us make school history! I wish you all the best.

What a privilege it is to finally get to return the favor and say a few words about Coach after all the praise he has given me over the years. Coach is a man of very few words, but he can get his point across....I am just kidding. I do not know how many times my teammates and I have looked at each other and wondered, “Now what does he want us to do?” But I will say that when it mattered most, the man knew what he was doing all along, and coaching just comes naturally to him. Coach has been a part of my best and worst experiences of athletics, while also being a part of shaping me into the person I am today. He also builds relationships with his athletes so they will last far past high school, and coaches not only about sports but about life. I am thankful for the memories I have had with Coach and I just know the Canadian Lady Cat program will never be the same. Although it is sad Coach and his family are leaving, I know the Lord has a plan and I wish them the best! Lastly, the Richardson family will always hold a special place in my heart, not only because of sports but because of them being my “neighbors” and a part of my church family. Now, may we end by never forgetting the time Coach ran morning cross country workouts with us one day and face-planted not even five steps into our run.
