Canadian High School XC teams compete in Canyon Eagle 6-Mile Relay

Canadian’s Lady Cat and Wildcat Cross Country teams competed Saturday in their first meet of the year—the Canyon Eagle 6-Mile Relay.

The #1 Wildcat Varsity Boys relay team placed second among Small Schools, and seventh overall out of 31 teams competing, with a total time of 34:31. CJ Jimenez cleared the 1.5-mile distance in 7:55, followed by Juan Vargas in 8:25, Anderson Perkins in 8:42, and Jose Vargas in 9:27.

The #2 Wildcat team placed tenth among Small Schools, and 21st overall, with a total time of 36:59. Coleman Perkins clocked in at 8:58, Logan Urschel at 9:09, Easton Galla at 9:23, and Brendan Carr at 9:30.

Individual runners Martin Baker and T.J. Purcell finished in 10:54 and 10:59 respectively.

The Lady Cats placed second overall in Division 1 (1A-3A schools).

“The girls ran great this weekend,” said Lady Cat Coach Aaron Marks. “The relay race format was a bit different than usual.”

Each contestant in the meet runs 1.5 miles, with all runners starting together in the same chute.

The Lady Cats #1 team—made up of Konnar McClendon, Arionna Black, Elizabeth Guerrero and Payton Lee—ran an unofficial time of 40:33. Konnar ran a 9:40 mile-and-a-half, Arionna ran 9:46, Elizabeth ran 10:18, and Payton ran 10:48.

Team #2—made up of Brooklyn Beedy, Landry Appel, Brooke Krehbiel and Maile Quisenberry—ran a 45:21 overall, Parks reported. Brooklyn ran a 10:55 mile-and-a-half, Landry ran 11:22, Brooke ran 11:56, and Maile 10:20.

“Cumulatively, the Lady Cats had the best times of two teams,” Parks explained, “so in a true XC scoring format, would have won the meet. It was a great start, and we can’t wait to continue.”

The Lady Cats are off this weekend and will run next at Perryton on Saturday, Sept. 9.
