Canadian golfer Ben Bryant wins his division in Junior PGA Tour

Young golfers from around the Panhandle competed here Saturday in the North Texas PGA Junior Tour, hosted by the Canadian Golf Club.

Two levels of competition were held. The west medalist level is for NTPGA Junior Tour members ages 11-19, with intermediate-level tournament experience, and offers 18-hole individual stroke play. The prep level is for members ages 7-19, who have achieved beginning-level golf and tournament experience, and offers competitive nine-hole individual stroke play.

Medalist Level

Two local golfers—Benjamin Bryant and Molly Meek—placed in the top of their age divisions at the medalist level.

Ben finished first in the boys 13-14 division, scoring 45 in the front nine and 40 in the back nine for an overall score of 88, at 16 over par. Pampa golfer Jase Boyd placed second, scoring 45-44 for a final score of 89, at 17 over.

This was Ben’s second first-place showing this summer. He also claimed first in his division at the NTPGA tournament in Perryton on June 6.

In the girls 15-18 division, Molly placed second, with 54 on the first nine and 61 on the second, for an overall 115. Brynlee Dyas Andrews, of Andrews, topped the division with 40-41 and a final of 81, at plus nine.

A field of eight golfers competed in the boys 15-18 division, which was won by Amarillo’s Colby Koetting, who finished 18 holes of play at with a total score of 73, one over par. Benjamin Metger and Skyler Hall, both of Perryton, claimed the next two spots—Ben finishing second with 38-38 and a final 76, and Skyler 41-40 and a final 81.

Other players included Callen Wyant of Pampa (41-45, 86); Josh Prather of Panhandle (50-43, 93); Gavin Boydston of Allison (49-48, 97); Alex Kuhler of Groom (49-53, 102); and Chance Haddox of Borger (52-51, 103).

Pampa’s Sawyer Burleson took first in boys 11-12, scoring 45-40 for an overall 85, at 13 over par. Jade Davis of Perryton topped the girls 13-14, with a score of 44-42, a final of 86 at 14 over.

Prep Level

Perryton golfer Jaxon Davis won the boys 9-10 division with a score of 40, at four over par. Three Amarillo players also competed, including Treycen McClure, who finished at 49; Johnny Connelly, 55; and Baker King, 56.

In the boys 11-12 division, Amarillo’s Isaiah Koetting won with a score of 47, at 11 over par. Bryalon Kimball of Texhoma was second with a score of 59.

In the boys 13-14 division, two Turpin, Oklahoma, golfers competed. Bryson Parker took the top spot with a score of 44, eight over par. Gunner Post finished with a 53, for 17 over par.

Caleb Manross of Perryton took the boys 7-8 division with a score of 50, at 14 over par. Amarillo’s Carley Campbell scored a 66 in the girls 11-12, to finish 30 over par. Booker golfer Lacie Weinette took first in the girls 7-8 division with a final of 72, 36 over par.

The Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour is one of the largest of its kind in the country. It has a membership of approximately 4,000 junior golfers, ages 7-19, and conducts over 500 tournaments annually. Tournaments vary in their degree of competitiveness and are for junior golfers of all skill levels.

Although the NTPGA Junior Tour fosters competition, its primary goals are to grow the game of golf; continue skill development; and encourage fellowship, good sportsmanship, honesty, and integrity, while setting the stage for a lifetime of playing golf.
