Hemphill County Sheriff Brent Clapp reported today that he had received a copy of the preliminary autopsy results in the February 29 death of 23-year-old Damaris Jara.

Following an autopsy, Dr. Thomas Parsons of South Plains Forensic Pathology ruled the death was due to natural causes. The cause of death was determined to be a subarachnoid hemorrhage, caused by a ruptured cerebral artery aneurysm.

Jara was found dead at her home early last Thursday morning, and her death reported to Hemphill County law enforcement officials. Jara’s family found her unresponsive in her bedroom around 7 am that morning. They told investigators that she had gone to bed around 11 pm Wednesday night.

The Hemphill County Sheriff’s Office and Justice of the Peace Jay Moseley were notified, and performed an initial investigation of the scene. Sheriff Clapp called in the Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation.

Jara was a member of the Canadian High School Class of 2020. She was the daughter of Nubia Montoya and Pascual Jara.
