Candidate filing continues for candidates seeking a place on the ballot in the May 4 city council and hospital, school and groundwater district board elections.

Thus far, five candidates have filed for office. Last week, both Karen Gullett and Sharon Carr filed re-election bids for the Hemphill County Hospital District board of directors. As previously reported, both Canadian ISD board member Cody Culwell and Hemphill County Underground Water Conservation District board member Spencer Hanes have also filed for re-election, while school trustee Courtney Trolinger has announced her retirement. Gary Prater signed up for re-election to the City Council this week.

Altogether, nine elected positions are up for grabs in the spring election, including three city council seats, two seats on the hospital board, two on the school board, and two on the water board.

The filing period continues for two more weeks, and will end on Friday, Feb. 16, at 5 pm.
