The Day Group of the Friendship Quilt Guild met May 15 at the Community Worship Center in Perryton. A short business meeting was followed by member updates.

We were happy to hear that Paulette Kelly, our Sunshine Chairman, is doing great and will soon be able to join us again.

We got some extremely sad news this month that longtime quilter, mentor, and Guild member, Dorothy File had passed away. She was always such a friendly, productive, and vital member of our group. She will be missed.

Round-Robin blocks were turned in to Norma Velasquez, Bonita passed hers out for June, and Carol Weist passed hers out in July. Ethel Rudd and Marilyn Robbins won the fat-quarter drawing of selections of monochromatic in beautiful shades of blue. Norma Velasquez and Alta Williams picked out of the fatquarter basket for name tag drawings.

Two more completed Jelly Roll Bags were shared from the workshop given by Claudette and Reann File. Lucy Webster has been really busy using up blue jeans to make placemats and a Cathedral Window quilt. Luana showed an impressive QOV made from tiny trimmings saved by members from the last couple of year’s worth of QOV blocks. It was truly a “scrap quilt.” It is gorgeous, and some lucky veterans will be so proud to own it.

The program, “Ideas for Grandkids” was a sharing by members of all kinds of activities to keep grandkids occupied during the summer visits.

Lots of ideas of family traditions that we grandmas try to keep going, from canning to breadmaking, to museum trips and scavenger hunts and yoga. And, of course, quilting, sewing, and crafts projects topped the list. I know I will be using several of these ideas for my grands this summer.
