Comptroller Distributes $1.2 Billion in Monthly Sales Tax Revenue to Local Governments

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for August, 2.8 percent more than in August 2022. These allocations are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly and on sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.

Canadian’s tax rebate jumped up 80.61 percent, from a net payment for this period in 2022--$36,911.01---to $66,667.78 in 2023. There was a 15.40 percent increase in the 2023 payments to date. Booker’s percentage for the net payment went down 14.22 percent---from $21,820.16 in 2022, to $18,717.29 this year. Higgins had an increase of 22.93 percent in this period, from $2,269.35 in 2022, to $2,789.86 in 2023. Perryton showed a decrease of 8.61 percent for this period. In Wheeler County, both Mobeetie and Wheeler showed a decrease in the net payment this period: -19.55 percent and -10.88 percent, respectively. Shamrock’s increased 5.92 percent.
