Comptroller Distributes $1.2 Billion in Monthly Sales Tax Revenue to Local Governments

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 4.3 percent more than in May 2022.

These allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.

Canadian’s $75,608.63 tax rebate for May showed a 15.55 percent increase from last year’s, and its current year-to-date numbers, $324,253.54, are up 13.17 percent from the 2022 YTD payments of $286,501.88. Booker had a bump of 42.37 percent in the YTD payment of $127,125.01 compared to last year’s $89,286.16. Perryton’s figures showed a 7.70 decrease for the current period, from $309,971.07 in 2022 to $286,076.96 this year.

For Miami, the current period showed a 25.43 percent decrease, from $10,304.42 in 2022 to $7,683.07 in 2023. Higgins’ collection for May of $3,226.97 was 1.43 percent below the same month in 2022. Follett showed a 29.08 percent decrease in its net payment when compared to last year’s.
