Structure fire on Sixth Monday

Body
A Monday night fire at the Jeremy Oatman home at 608 S. 6th Street destroyed an old chicken coop, and damaged a nearby pole barn and the framework of a greenhouse. At 10 pm, dispatchers alerted the Canadian VFD, who then rolled out five trucks, including both city pumpers and three grass rigs, to the scene. Firefighters battled the flames for about two hours. Fire Chief Scott Brewster said the cause of the fire was undetermined.

A Real Showstopper

Body
This B-1 Lancer was transported to Kansas Thursday morning, on its way to be decommissioned and scanned for part fabrication. It traveled through Canadian en route north on US 83, with a full escort of law enforcement and other security vehicles, stopping all traffic on its way. These are just a couple of the impromptu photos that we are certain documented its final mission. CHERI SMITH

School's Out?

Body
SCHOOL’S OUT? These teachers and staff members—masked, gloved and carefully distanced—were lined up outside Canadian Middle School Monday morning waiting for students to come by and pick up their locker contents, which had been gathered, bagged, and sealed and were lining the sidewalk on Sixth Street. Farther up the street were tables filled with lost and found items that students were asked to claim. With the disruption of the coronavirus, all that’s left of the 2020 school year is a series of virtual awards ceremonies that staff have been preparing, and the Canadian Middle School and High School graduation ceremonies. School officials are hoping that at least the Class of 2020 graduation ceremony will still be held at the Wildcat Football Stadium, with restrictions on the number of family members who can attend to allow for safety and social distancing.
