Ah, September! We’ve been waiting for you. Soon it will be a beautiful day in the neighborhood. A brutal heat wave has had us in its grip for the past six weeks. Temperatures have been over 100 degrees with zero precipitation. Our rain total thus far for 2020 is 8 inches. In a dry year, we average 12 inches. The intensity of the heat makes you think about cool, green days, and you begin to take stock of things. It helps to sort the current situation into the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’ll save the good for last.

The Canadian Wildcat junior varsity opened their 2020 season in convincing fashion last Thursday, vanquishing the West Texas Comanches 60-6 on the road. The Cats posted 48 first-half points while holding the Comanches scoreless through three quarters, before WT found the end zone for their only 6 points of the game.

Colton Cooper, a 6-foot-1, 190- senior, is in his second season of being a two-way starter as an offensive and defensive lineman for the Wildcats. Cooper played and started in all 15 games for a Canadian team that was 14-1 last year, advancing to the Class 3A Division II state semifinals.
