On Thursday afternoon, September 3, World War II Veteran Calvin Nimmo was presented with a Quilt of Valor in a ceremony held at Mesa View. He was nominated for the honor by Mesa View resident Betty Yauck, who made the quilt with the help of Sue Patton and Randi Ortega, and who presented the Quilt of Valor to him.
Sept. 9-13 marks the anniversary of arguably this area’s most important historical event—and sadly, its least known one. The Texas Historical Commission refers to Lyman’s Wagon Train Battle as the beginning of “America’s most important war, which you know nothing about.”
