Charles Philip “Phil” Rogers, 78, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Memorial services will be on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral Home in Amarillo, Texas.
Phil was born on July 27, 1945, in Wellington, to Ted and Virginia Rogers. He graduated from Canadian High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1963, and attended the University of Texas in Austin. He worked as a computer technician at NCR for 40 years, retiring in 2005.
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced this week that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.3 billion in local sales tax allocations for February, 1.6 percent more than in February 2023.
These allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2023 sales by businesses that report tax annually.
LAST WEEK, I RECEIVED a call from Hemphill County Deputy Oscar Ortega that my elderly cousin and her husband were lost and needed help. I was confused because they live in Temple, Texas—some 400 miles south of Canadian.
Apparently, three days earlier they set out to pay bills in Temple and simply got lost. Not only were they 400 miles from home, they were out of money and needed help.
